Award- winning Serbian poets Duško Novaković and Vojislav Karanović, together with Prof. Kayoko Yamasaki, poet, literary translator and Professor at Japanese Language and Literature Department, Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade, visited Japan from November 14 to 22nd.

On the initiative of Prof. K. Yamasaki, with kind support of Slavic centers at Japanese universities and the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, poetry readings and discussions were held at the University of Tokyo, Hokkaido University, Kobe University and P.E.N of Japan. These events attracted great attention of Japanese literature circles and among guests were esteemed professors from Japanese universities, scholars, publishers, journalists etc.

On November 16th poetry reading and discussion was held at our Embassy. Mr. N. Glišić, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. made a welcome speech and greeted the guests of honor, prominent Japanese poets Mr. Tanikawa Shuntaro, Ms. Kazuko Shiraishi and Mr. Mutsuo Takahashi. Besides poetry readings by Mr. Novaković, Mr. Karanović and Ms. Yamasaki, guests could hear poems of great Serbian authors (M. Crnjanski, D. Maksimović, S. Raičkovič). Small cocktail reception followed the readings.
