Printer Friendly Version Increased Number of Japanese Tourists in Serbia @ 1 April 2014 01:48 AM


According to Ms. Gordana Plamenac, Director of the Tourist Organization of Serbia, the number of overall foreign tourists in 2013 increased and the capital Belgrade was the most popular destination for foreign tourists (56% of all foreign tourists visited Belgrade).

Ms. Plamenac said in an interview for „Tanjug” News Agency that destinations mostly visited by tourists, apart from Belgrade were Novi Sad, Nis, Subotica, Kragujevac and tourist centres such as Vrnjacka Banja, Kopaonik and Zlatibor.

She added that Japanese tourists ”discovered” Serbia in 2013 with increase of 67,8% compared to year before, folowed by tourists from Turkey (52,7% increase), and tourists from China (37.9%), Russia 37,7 and Israel 23,4%.

In the first 10 months of 2013 overall number of foreign tourists increased 4% compared to the same period a year before.

The greatest number of tourists came from the region (former Yugoslavia) - from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Slovenia and Croatia, Ms. Plamenac explained.

Famous travel guide „Lonely Planet” also suggested Belgrade as destination to visit during holiday season in January.

Tourist Organization of Serbia has prepared promotive campaign mostly for younger tourists.
